In the right gear

Got the board, the bindings and the boots. Now you need the pants. No big a deal? Wrong – as you’ll quickly find out if you hit the slopes without a good pair.

Good snow boarding pants will provide you with three main benefits:

1. Comfort

Most importantly, your snowboard pants need to be a comfortable.  If you’re comfortable, you’ll feel good and get the best out of your time on the slopes.

Make sure you allow yourself plenty of time to try on lots of different pants and brands.

2. Insulation

The main function of snowboard pant is to provide you with a layer of insulation between your body and the snow. Look for pants that have:

  • Air flow vents that help the pants breathe. Often mesh-lined, these should feature in various places
  • Taped or sealed seams that prevent snow or moisture from getting in
  • Added lining such as lightweight fleece that provide added warmth.

Any or all of these characteristics will keep you dry and warm.

3. Practicality

To be useful, your snowboard pants also need to be practical. Look for features such as:

  • Added lining around the rear and the knees (your pant will last longer)
  • Plenty of pockets to carry all your extras
  • An adjustable waist for extra comfort
  • Waterproof zippers.
